The Ministry of Justice requires the services of a main building contractor to undertake the seismic strengthening of the original Dunedin High/District Court building, repair the external envelope, and undertake an internal fit out/alteration to modernise and improve functionality of all areas. The Ministry seeks a Registration of Interest from organisations with the capability and expertise to provide the required Services.

The Dunedin High/District Court located at 1 Stuart Street Dunedin is one of the most significant buildings in the Ministry’s portfolio. Originally built in 1902, the Dunedin Law Courts holds a Category One listing on the Heritage New Zealand Register, is a protected building in the Dunedin City Council District Plan and is part of the ANZAC Square/Railway Station Heritage Precinct. The opportunity to seismically upgrade and restore one of Dunedin’s most admired and locally recognised buildings is an exciting prospect.
