In 2009 the Ministry made alterations to the Wanganui Courthouse to incorporate a new sallyport and changes to its custodial areas to make the transfer of people in custody attending court safer.

Weathertightness issues have subsequently arisen, which need to be remedied. Replacing the 12 windows on the sallyport side of the 1st floor is included in the weathertightness works.

Suppliers will need to be mindful that there is asbestos located in each window frame that will need to be removed by a specialist contractor. Also the window replacements are in the Judge’s Chambers and careful programming will be necessary to ensure any disruptive works are undertaken outside of working hours or when the Court is not sitting.

The Ministry requires a main contractor to complete the following works:
• repair the leaks in the Sallyport roof, and
• remove and replace 12 windows on the sallyport side of the 1st floor along with the flashings and associated works including the removal of asbestos in the window frames.
