Maritime NZ own and operate a national aid to navigation (AtoN) network as part of our core business under the Maritime Transport Act 1994. The network comprises of 96 lights (including 23 classic lighthouse), 46 day beacons, 8 buoys and 3 automatic identification systems (AIS) AtoN marks. The exact number of these may vary over time.

Maritime NZ is looking at going out to market to establish a Supply Panel of suitably qualified and experience suppliers that have both the capability and capacity to carry out the following:
1. Annual routine maintenance
a) Routine checks of beacons
b) Routine checks AC/DC power systems
c) Routine structure maintenance
d) Routine ground and vegetation control.
2. Site upgrades (vary annually)
a) Upgrade of beacons
b) Update of solar DC systems
c) Upgrade of 230V AC power systems
3. Fault response
a) Responding to site outages to ensure the Aids to Navigation meet the availability targets set by the International Organisation for Marine Aid to Navigation (IALA)
