Overview

Goal 1 of MIT’s Strategic Plan is to “Grow Lifelong Learning”. One of the key strategies of this goal is to develop online & blended capability, or “Fleximode” delivery. The purpose of Fleximode is to optimise the use of technology to enable students accessing their learning via various methods to leverage the same course content, learner networks and activities.
In other words, whether a student engages with their studies on campus or online (including via their workplace) they will access the same course information and content, from the same online location, and engage with each other via the same technology-enabled learning ecosystem. In addition, they will have aspects of their learning experience that are particular to their delivery method (e.g. on-line students may engage in online classes; on-campus students may attend laboratories).

Fleximode offers the opportunity to reach new student markets (those that don’t live locally and those that can’t attend weekday/daytime classes), potentially increasing student numbers. It also provides 24x7 access to learning resources for all students (on-campus and on-line), potentially increasing student experience and success rates.

As part of the Fleximode project, we intend to include a proctoring tool to ‘supervise’ online assessments, providing Government, Employers and the public with confidence in the integrity of MIT’s online qualifications.
