Overview

The Ministry for the Environment (the Ministry), is seeking proposals for the collection of strips of LiDAR data and aerial photography over the LUCAS pre-1990 planted forest plot network during the summer of 2014/2015.

The LUCAS pre-1990 planted forest plot network is a nationwide sampling scheme based on an 8km square grid. Permanent sample plots are established where the grid points intersect mapped pre-1990 planted forests. The plot network includes sample points from the top of the North Island to the bottom of the South Island of New Zealand (Appendix 2). The pre-1990 planted forest plot network is scheduled for re-measurement in 2014/2015.

The plot network re-measurement includes the collection of swaths of LiDAR data and aerial photography over pre-1990 planted forests. The LiDAR data and aerial photography is to be collected in north-south orientated lines that intersect with pre-1990 planted forests. In forests where a LUCAS pre-1990 planted forest ground plots is located, the swath must be centred on the ground plot location. The LUCAS pre-1990 planted forest LiDAR data and aerial photography acquisition is nationwide and includes challenging terrain. Dense forest canopies and adverse weather can also influence the project
