Overview

We are seeking the development of modelling, analyses, data and a report describing how, and how much, material is eroded from land to fresh and coastal waters.
This information will be used in the upcoming reports of MfE and Stats NZ’s Environmental Reporting Series.

The following will be delivered:
• A recommended model for the purposes of developing and updating erosion and sedimentation indicators for environmental reporting. The recommended model should be able to be updated every three years easily and at low cost;
• Modelled soil erosion (mass soil loss to freshwater), sediment deposition in freshwater, sediment loads and yields from fresh water to coastal waters, and sediment deposition in coastal waters for all catchments;
• A report explaining methodology and the model uncertainties; and
• The underlying data (and associated metadata and data dictionary).
We require the data resulting from this contract be released to MfE for publication under a CC-BY licence.
This work will be used in environmental reporting, so the resulting analyses should not be released without permission from the Ministry prior to the publication of the Environment Aotearoa 2019 report.
We are also asking for the provider to build in 15 hours of their time for answering questions. Stats NZ will quality-assure any provided datasets and methodology, and may need to ask the provider to answer questions on their analysis and results.

This is a unique opportunity to provide information that will inform the New Zealand public and decision makers on soil erosion and sedimentation in the freshwater and marine environments.
