Overview

The Ministry is based in Wellington, New Zealand. The general role of the Ministry is to provide policy advice to the government of the day, funding of sector agencies, agency board governance, research and publications, commemorations and heritage programmes. The Ministry has responsibility for the Protected Objects Act 1975 (the Act). The Act requires the Ministry to provide for the appropriate care including conservation treatment of newly found taonga tūturu . The taonga tūturu conserved under the Act are unique examples of New Zealand’s cultural heritage.

The Ministry is seeking services related to the conservation treatment of predominately waterlogged wood artefacts (taonga tūturu).

Due to the unique and specialised nature of this work, the Ministry understands there are few, if any, other providers of the services the Ministry currently engages the National Conservation Laboratory to undertake.
The purpose of this RFI therefore is to test this understanding and explore if there any other potential providers of the services, either domestically or internationally.
