Overview

Lincoln University wishes to engage a contractor to remove solid waste from its campus in a sustainable manner.

The University currently operates an inhouse waste collection process whereby waste is collected from wheelie bins, transported to a central collection point on campus, and is then collected by a waste removal contractor where it is sent in bulk for recycling or landfill. Currently, paper, cardboard, plastics, glass and a small amount of food waste are separated at source for recycling.

The University is interested in proposals from suitably experienced and equipped companies to either collect the waste at source and remove it from campus, or as a bulk removal option only similar to the current methodology.

The University wishes to broaden its options for recycling and reuse, review the location and recycling options at the waste collection points on campus for recycling via bins, and have a method of recycling furniture, clothing, batteries, etc. Proposals may be submitted for some or all of the requirements, although proposals that favour broader recycling options are preferred.

Proposals should include allowance for a key contact to work with the University to progressively improve the recycling conversion rates, including provision of monthly statistics. Proposals should include a sample monthly statistics report.

Waste is currently collected from houses and flats, halls of residence buildings, a commercial gym and sports centre, a commercial kitchen and student dining facility, three retail food outlets, teaching and administration buildings, as well as some commercial tenants occupying buildings on campus, as well as three farms (within 12km of the campus).
