LINZ is planning to undertake a comprehensive data migration project to transition from S-57 to S-100/S-101 while implementing a new gridded chart scheme and dual fuel production capability.
The migration aims to:
• Transition from legacy S-57 database to modern S-101 ENCs
• Implement S-101 ENC production alongside S-57 (dual fuel approach)
• Establish new gridded chart scheme for improved coverage removing overlaps
• Rationalize data through vertical deconfliction and horizontal consistency
• Create scaleless layers
The migration will follow a region-by-region strategy where geographic areas are processed sequentially. Each region will undergo the complete migration cycle independently, with only static external dependencies from preparation phases. This approach allows for:
• Parallel processing of multiple regions
• Focused quality control and validation
• Manageable scope and risk mitigation
• Flexible scheduling based on operational priorities
• Provide dual fuel product release efficiency with minimal impact on Paper Charts
