HDC is an independent watchdog, providing people using health and disability services with a voice, resolving complaints and holding providers to account for improving their practices at an individual and system-wide level. The Health and Disability Commissioner has the role of promoting and protecting the rights of health and disability service consumers, and facilitating the fair, simple and efficient resolution of complaints. This is, in part delivered through a free nationwide advocacy service that is independent of all health and disability service providers and agencies.
The advocacy service contract is up for renewal in mid-2023 and HDC is considering how this service will be delivered in the future. We are wanting to engage with the market about their interest, capability and capacity in the short, medium and long-term.
