Overview

HBDHB require a main contractor to deliver the works necessary to complete the Surgical Services Expansion Project.
The role will require the main contractor to plan, manage, monitor, coordinate, construct, and arrange, where appropriate, subcontractors to carry out the works to complete the project and subsequent production of code compliance certificates, producer statements and warranties.
The main contractor will be engaged on a P&G and Margin basis including direct trade pricing with non-direct subtrades tendered by the successful contractor after engagement.
As this is complex work, we require what is commonly referred to in the New Zealand industry as a ‘Tier 1’ contractor.

The project generally consists of refurbishing existing spaces and building services to develop an additional operating theatre, larger PACU (Post Anaesthetic Care Unit) and Pre & Post Op areas, and remodelling reception, waiting, office and storage areas within the existing Theatre Block.
It also includes construction of a new link bridge to connect the staff amenities and office block on the first floor of the new Endoscopy building to the ground floor of the Theatre Block.
The structure requires significant seismic upgrading through the basement, ground and roof space levels to achieve 67% IL4 and building services to achieve SLS2.
There is a requirement to keep the Theatre Block functional during construction and provide suitable controls to maintain a clean environment in the patient and staff occupied areas.
It is envisaged that the project will be completed in 6 stages. These have been developed through consideration of the operational requirements of the Theatre Block and some of the stages can be completed concurrently. The main contractor will be expected to use the staging plan as a basis for developing the project methodology in consultation with the Client.
