Overview

Whakatu Arterial Link – Road and Bridge Construction Project

Hastings District Council (HDC) invites you to a contractor briefing session for the Whakatu Arterial Link (WAL) project. The design delivery team will brief you on the nature of the project, the construction requirements and the anticipated programming. Contractors will be provided with a more detailed information pack at the briefing and key design and project delivery personnel will be available to answer any questions on the day.

Project Introduction:

The WAL is a proposed new road construction located in Hastings. This will include the upgrade of existing intersections (namely SH2, Napier Road, Pakowhai Road) and construction of a new greenfield link road within Whakatu.

The proposed road is approximately 3.5km long and is orientated in a general north-west/south-east alignment, extending from the west at Pakowhai Road to the intersection of SH2 with Napier Road to the east (see attached plans).

The project includes a roundabout at Pakowhai Road (4 arm including a car park access), a bridge crossing the Karamu Stream, a 4-arm roundabout at Whakatu Road and a 5-arm roundabout at SH2.

The project is currently within the detailed design stage, with tender award scheduled in late 2015.
