Overview
Closed System Transfer Devices (CSTD), are defined by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) as, “A drug transfer device that mechanically prohibits the transfer of environmental contaminants into the system and the escape of hazardous drug or vapour concentrations outside the system. The objective of this request process is to identify and implement a suitable CSTD for use across the Northern Region for the administration of antineoplastic drugs in the inpatient and outpatient adult and paediatric settings, as per Standard 6.2 of the National Nursing Standards for Antineoplastic Drug Administration in New Zealand (2016) which states "closed system administration sets will be used to minimise drug exposure”.
