Overview

Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC) is seeking proposals for the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of a Depot Protection System (DPS) for a new rail maintenance depot in Masterton. We are looking for suppliers with proven experience delivering similar systems in Australasia.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-profile, multi-year regional rail programme, the Lower North Island Rail Integrated Mobility (LNIRIM) initiative, which will transform inter-regional passenger transport across the Wellington and Horizons regions.

The DPS will support the safe operation of a new fleet of independently powered electric multiple units (IPEMUs), which will service the Wairarapa and Manawatū lines from 2028. The selected DPS Contractor will be a Nominated Subcontractor under the IPEMU Depot Contract and engaged by the IPEMU Depot Builder to deliver the DPS works. The DPS must be ready for commissioning by mid-2028.

This RFP is being released in parallel with the IPEMU Depot procurement to ensure early integration and cost certainty.
