We’re seeking supplier proposals for a Driver Training Simulator for a new fleet of trains which will operate across the Greater Wellington and Horizons regions. The supplier will need to design, manufacture, deliver, install, commission, document, and maintain the simulator.

The new fleet of IPEMU’s (Independently Powered Electric Multiple Units) will perform regional services on the Wairarapa and Manawatu train lines. Procurement of the IPEMUs is being conducted in parallel with this IPEMU Driver Training Simulator procurement. It is expected that the new trains will begin to arrive in 2028, and additional services will be fully operational in 2029.

Once the simulator has been installed and formally accepted by us, we will make it available for use by our IPEMU operator. The operator for the IPEMUs has not been identified yet but will be confirmed prior to the installation of the Simulator.
