Meat and dairy plants are significant users of process heat, with most of this heat currently sourced from fossil fuels. 

More than half of the approximately 200 plants nation-wide use coal-fired boilers. There are significant opportunities for these sites to save money and reduce CO2 emissions through improved energy efficiency and / or switching to lower carbon fuels.

Feedback from large energy users in the meat and dairy sector is that they may not have the resources or expertise to properly scope the feasibility of carbon emission reduction opportunities and build a compelling business case for investment. The Lower Carbon Meat and Dairy Programme provides support to identify and quantify process heat-related carbon emission reduction opportunities, and prepare business cases and plans to achieve these.

The funding will help towards developing business cases for 50 meat and dairy processing sites. EECA BUSINESS will fund up to 75% of the costs, up to a maximum of $15,000 per site.

EECA BUSINESS is seeking proposals from qualified consultants to become programme partners for the Lower Carbon Meat and Dairy Programme. Programme partners will be able to apply for funding to support the delivery of quality, compelling business cases for meat and dairy processing clients.
