Overview

Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) chargers enable electric vehicles (EVs) to both draw electricity from and return electricity to the grid.

As part of our wider distributed flexibility work programme, EECA, in collaboration with Rewiring Aotearoa, is undertaking a research project to understand the practical roll-out considerations for V2G technology in New Zealand.
The V2G charger trial will test the economic, resilience, and integration aspects of using V2G and help EECA and Rewiring Aotearoa to gain a better understanding of how homes and businesses will engage with V2G chargers.

EECA is seeking a supplier to lead project delivery in Queenstown (or nearby areas). The selected supplier will lead the technical design of the trial, including how data from the chargers will be collected, engagement with project partners and other key stakeholders, manage the installation process, and ensure insights are gained and reported on.

A supplier briefing will be held on Friday 14 November 2025 - details on how to register will be published soon.
