The Electoral Commission wishes to engage a suitably experienced and capable supplier to provide high-quality translation services for public information about enrolling and voting from English into 29 languages (excluding te reo Māori and New Zealand Sign Language).

During election events, such as a general election, by-elections, or a referendum, our translation requirements scale up significantly to deliver a high volume of translation work to support delivery of information to Pacific and culturally and linguistically diverse communities across New Zealand to support their engagement and participation in the electoral system.

The Commission is particularly interested in suppliers that can provide desktop publishing services, include community reviews as part of the translation process, and who can maintain political neutrality to ensure trust and confidence in the electoral system.

The Electoral Commission, 34-42 Manners Street, Wellington, is pleased to announce that Straker Ltd Limited, Parkway Drive, Rosedale, Auckland, has been awarded the contract to provide translation services (excl te reo Māori and NZ Sign Language) for the Commission.
The agreement was signed 4 August 2026 for an initial term of 2 years, 4 months, with a right of renewal for an additional 3 year term (total contract term 5 years, 4 months).
The spend under the contract is variable and is based on actual requirements during the term of the agreement. The budget for the 5 year, 4 month term is up to $360,000 excluding GST.
