Overview

Tāhuhu: Preserving the Nation’s Memory is a programme of work that will ensure that New Zealand’s documentary heritage is future-proofed for coming generations.

Tāhuhu encompasses Archives New Zealand, the National Library of New Zealand and Ngā Toanga Sounds and Vision. It includes building modern, purpose-built facilities and refurbishment works designed to ensure Aotearoa New Zealand’s documentary heritage is preserved, protected and celebrated. Tāhuhu is a collaborative infrastructure Programme which supports physical, cultural and organisational transformation.

To efficiently achieve the high-volume of packaging needed over the next 5 to 7 years, the Department requires a box making machine. It is intended that this machine will be used by Archives New Zealand, the National Library and Ngā Taonga Sound and Vision throughout the Tāhuhu Programme and beyond this (i.e. for ongoing BAU requirements following the completion of the Programme).

Boxing is a major activity in both Archives New Zealand and the National Library. After controlled storage, boxing and packaging is the primary preservation activity which provides a range of benefits to manage deterioration risks. Different packaging strategies are used to manage/mitigate most agents of deterioration.

The Programme is seeking to understand through this Request for Information the capability that exists within the box making machine market.

It is intended that the information gathered through this Request for Information will be used to inform the Programme’s understanding of the range and availability of potential solutions to meet the Business Requirements including;

* The size and nature of the market;

* Options for procuring a potential solution; and

* Factors to be considered when procuring a solution.

The information gathered during this Request for Information process will allow the Programme to determine viable procurement options. It is the Programme’s current intention to procure services beginning in late 2020/early 2021.
