The Department of Internal Affairs (DIA or the Department) is seeking to invest in the upgrade and expansion of the physical infrastructure for Archives New Zealand (Archives) and the National Library of New Zealand (National Library) to provide fit-for-purpose facilities for the storage of our physical documentary heritage.

The Department is seeking to identify Respondent Proposals to provide long term access to a new purpose-built facility in Wellington through the provision of land, Design and Build, finance, maintenance and subsequent lease (or other similar model). Note that pre-condition 1 requires that the Archives Wellington (AWL) site must be located on suitable land within the boundary of (refer to the map on page 10 of Section 3): State Highway 1; Thorndon Quay – Featherston Street; Bowen Street – Whitmore Street for reasons of operational efficiencies.

You should respond if you can offer:

1. Suitable available land to undertake, and are willing and capable to undertake, a construction development (Design and Build), finance, maintenance and long term lease of a purpose-built building fit for Archival and office purposes (or other similar contractual model); and

2. Are interested in:
a. Entering into a long-standing relationship with a core central Government Department; and
b. Working with us to ensure that the heritage of our country culturally, constitutionally, and economically is maintained and housed in appropriate building environments for our use and for future generations.
