Creative New Zealand (CNZ) is seeking proposals from experienced research providers to deliver the 2026 edition of New Zealanders and the Arts – Ko Aotearoa me ōna Toi, Aotearoa New Zealand's national benchmark study of public attitudes, attendance and participation in the arts, culture, creativity and ngā toi Māori.
Conducted every three years since 2005, this research provides important evidence for Creative New Zealand, central and local government, and the wider arts and cultural sector. Findings are used to inform policy, strategy, advocacy, investment decisions, performance monitoring and sector development.
The successful supplier will be responsible for designing, delivering, analysing and reporting on nationally representative surveys of: New Zealand adults aged 15 years and over and Young people aged 10 to 14 years.
Services required include survey and sample design, fieldwork management, data processing, weighting, statistical analysis and reporting. Suppliers must demonstrate an ability to maintain trend comparability with previous survey waves, particularly the 2023 survey.
A key requirement is achieving statistically reliable results for Māori, Pacific, Asian, Deaf and disabled New Zealanders, as well as regional populations. Suppliers must demonstrate how accessibility will be embedded throughout survey design, fieldwork, reporting and research outputs.
The successful supplier will produce high-quality datasets, technical documentation and research outputs, including national, population-specific and regional reports, and work collaboratively with CNZ to ensure the research meets organisational, stakeholder and sector needs.
CNZ is seeking a supplier with the capability, experience, systems and capacity to deliver a complex, nationally representative research programme at scale. Experience delivering large-scale social research and working effectively with diverse communities is highly desirable.
