As New Zealand’s second largest airport, Christchurch Airport is a major transportation hub and the South Island’s busiest connection to the world’s trade and tourism markets.
Hold Baggage Screening (HBS) at Christchurch Airport and throughout New Zealand currently utilises two-dimensional x-ray technology.
On 09-Feb-18, the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand (CAA) directed the requirement for new HBS standards to be implemented by 01-Jan-22.
The new HBS standard requires the use of Computed Tomography Technology, referred to as Standard 3 Technology (STD-3). In simple terms, STD-3 applies sophisticated algorithms for the detection of explosives and other threats by creating a 3-D image that can be viewed and rotated 360 degrees for a thorough analysis of baggage items.
The purpose of this project is to enable the upgrade of Christchurch Airports HBS to meet this standard, including the installation of three STD-3 machines and to provide space for the installation of a fourth machine to accommodate future passenger growth.
Christchurch International Airport invites expressions of interest for the STD-3 HBS Project from the following disciplines;
- Structural Engineering Services
- Project Management Services
