Overview

The Council owns three transfer stations in the city located at Parkhouse Road, Styx Mill Road and Metro Place.

Operation and maintenance of the transfer stations is essential to meeting the Council’s service levels in respect of providing public drop off facilities for rubbish and recycling as well as the provision of a processing facility for kerbside recycling.

The transfer stations are being upgraded to enable them to function flexibly and offer optimised waste, recycling and recovery services for the city.

The design focus for this review is the modification of the existing refuse transfer buildings (1 at each of the three sites). The design is focussed on repair and strengthening of damaged structural elements in the pit operations zone and the extension and renovation of the existing amenities at the gable end of the refuse transfer buildings. The refuse transfer buildings will remain in their existing site locations but will have an expanded footprint.

As part of the Priority One scope of the wider redevelopment project, an independent structural engineering peer review is required. The three existing buildings are two-story with subterranean elements.
