The present location of the Scarborough 1 Pump Station (PS1060) is exposed to Rockfall (boulder roll) hazard. Although the building was not damaged by rockfall during the Canterbury Earthquake Sequence (CES), one boulder came to rest against the back wall, and several other nearby boulders rolled far enough that they would have impacted the building if their trajectory had been in line with it. The CCC Technical Services team completed a Rockfall Hazard Assessment to establish the likely medium-to-long-term risk to the existing pump station due to rockfall, and to consider what remediation methods may be suitable to mitigate the risk.
