Overview
Traffic counting services are required to support the effective planning, operation, and development of Christchurch’s transport network. These services provide essential data on road user behaviour, which informs a wide range of transport-related decisions and activities.
The traffic counting programme must deliver accurate and timely data on traffic volumes and patterns across the city. This data is used to:
• Forecast and model road user behaviour
• Inform future road layout planning
• Prioritise future infrastructure and maintenance works
• Support maintenance and renewal programme development
• Assist in operational roading alterations
