Council is requesting proposals for the delivery of targeted transport safety improvements from a variety of work programmes. The objective is to award a contract to the successful tenderer that will act as a vehicle for delivering safety improvements to improve safety outcomes for all users of our transport network.
The following are the programmes that are delivered by the Traffic Operations team and will fall under this contract:
A. Minor Road Safety
A programme of safety improvement projects to increase safety at locations with a history of crashes. Includes speed limit changes also as a safety treatment.
B. Safety At Schools
The provision of school safety equipment, and associated infrastructure safety improvements around schools.
C. Minor Safety Interventions
The Minor Safety Interventions Programme focuses on the treatment of high-risk sites where softer low-cost interventions (e.g. line/sign upgrade, pedestrian crossing points, cycle lanes, High Friction Surfacing - HFS, Rural Intersection Active Warning Sign, red light camera) have been considered.
D. Road Markings and Signs
To install and or upgrade new road markings and signs.
The Contract Works may include but are not limited to:
• Construction of kerb and channel including cutdowns.
• Construction of cutdowns in existing paths.
• Construction of minor drainage works.
• Construction of carriageway shoulder restoration/pavement.
• Construction of paths, cycleways and vehicle crossings.
• Construction of lawns and landscape areas.
• Construction of traffic calming (road humps and platforms).
• Construction of pedestrian refuge islands.
• Road marking and signage.
• Street furniture and pedestrian features.
• Tactile paving installation.
• Safe school infrastructure such as kea crossings.
• School speed zones.
• Minor traffic signal implementations and modifications.
• Traffic control, contract administration (including monthly reporting and preparation of environmental management), Site-specific safety and environmental management plans (EMP), site management, and setting out of works.
