On 01 June, the Mayor and Councillors endorsed a report recommending that Christchurch City Council rebuild rather than repair the South Library and Service Centre Te Kete Wānanga o Wai Mōkihi.
The existing building, which is nearly 20 years old, suffered significant structural damage in the earthquakes.
The full report can be found here. It recommends staff begin the design process for a rebuild of the library and customer service centre on its existing site. As part of that process, Council will engage with the community about what they want to see in the new facility. In the process of rebuilding we can future-proof the facility for decades to come and create a greener, more energy efficient building.
We are developing a procurement strategy for the rebuild of the South Library and Service Centre Te Kete Wānanga o Wai Mōkihi, which will be determined in accordance with the Council’s Procurement Policy and Framework.
We intend to release a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a design team to design this new facility, in Q3 2022.
The formal document will include our standard conditions of RFP which includes that any attempt made by a Respondent to influence the outcome of the RFP process by canvassing, lobbying or otherwise seeking support of the Council officers or elected representatives of the Council, shall be deemed valid grounds for the exclusion of that Response from the evaluation process.
I would encourage interested parties to register on GETS and to regularly check the site for new notices being published.
