As you know, the Council introduced a new Procurement Policy in 2018. This is a different way of looking at how we select goods, works and services. It’s about enhancing the environment and improving social and economic aspects of life here in our city. We look to team up with suppliers who share these goals.
As part of this, we’re looking at how we can encourage our suppliers to pay their staff the living wage. We plan that in June a report will go to Council to look at options for how we might do this.
Prior to any decisions being made we want to share the options with our suppliers to get their views and preferences.
This will help us to understand how the options may impact you and to help inform our decision.
Our options are:
1, To give a greater weighting to Living Wage employers when evaluating tenders.
2, Make it mandatory for Council suppliers to pay their employees a Living Wage
3, Make it mandatory for our suppliers to pay their employees a Living Wage to low paid industries only such as cleaning
Any changes decided on will be implemented through our procurement process by changing Council’s procurement rules.
