Overview

Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant incorporates a thermophilic/mesophilic digester train generating about 1000 m3/hr of biogas. The biogas is burnt in a cogeneration plant to provide heat and electricity. Biogas is also used in gas boilers for supplementary heating at times. Current storage of biogas is limited to about 2-3 minutes of gas production. As gas production varies over time, and the gas users operate within a comparatively narrow range, it is difficult to perfectly match biogas supply and demand. Increasing biogas storage by installation of a gas membrane will improve the ability of the site to fully and efficiently utilise the biogas.

The purpose of this EOI is to prequalify and shortlist suitable Prospective Suppliers to provide supply and install package of a biogas membrane that align with our strategic aspirations:

 Value for money for Christchurch ratepayers and the wider community through cost effective provision of biogas storage
 Environmental sustainability, by facilitating more efficient utilisation of biogas as an energy source
 Social responsibility, by supporting a liveable city
 Economic benefit; by optimising council costs over the long run
 Efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of the Goods and/or Services.
