Overview

The Ōhineangaanga Stream Erosion Protection Works project involves the construction of a range of river and stream management measures designed to stabilise stream banks, reduce erosion, protect surrounding infrastructure, and improve the long-term resilience and environmental health of the stream corridor.

The works include the excavation and reshaping of sections of the stream channel and banks, installation of rock riprap erosion protection, construction of retaining structures including sheet pile walls and reinforced earth walls, and the implementation of grade control and flow management features to help manage water movement and reduce further erosion. The project also includes the creation of low-flow channel features and access benches to support both stream function and ongoing maintenance activities.

Environmental management is a key component of the project. Works will be undertaken within and around the stream environment, requiring the management of stream flows, protection of aquatic habitats, and maintenance of fish passage during construction. Following construction, disturbed areas will be reinstated and riparian planting undertaken to enhance ecological values and support the long-term stability of the stream banks.

Overall, the project is intended to provide a sustainable erosion protection solution that safeguards nearby assets, enhances the resilience of the stream system, and delivers environmental improvements within the Ōhineangaanga Stream catchment.
