Overview

This Request for Information (RFI) is issued for Auckland Transport (AT). The aim of this process is to seek and obtain information from organisations about the potential supply of Electronic Flood Alert Systems.
Auckland Transport is currently completing a pilot a of an Electronic Flood Alert System at one North/West and one South Auckland site. This Request for Information (RFI) is to establish if there are any other suppliers that can provide these services for future procurement needs.
There are no known such alert systems for Auckland Roads so far. The optimal locations of the required infrastructure will be worked through with the contractors and area specialists on a site by site basis.
Sensors that will trigger an alert to Auckland Transport’s operations centre once waters reach set levels will be required in addition to activating electronic road signs which can provide key messages to road users.
This type of technology is proving effective in other countries that have been impacted by severe weather events such as Australia and USA. Installing it in Auckland will enable Auckland Transport to warn users about the likelihood of having to utilise alternative routes ahead of any road closures as water levels rise, along with the sign being able to notify when the road is closed and/or diversion routes. The alerts sent back to Auckland Transports Operations Centre will enable wider communications to be circulated such as on AT’s website, via social media to community groups, radio and so on.
The RFI Information Contact Person set out in Schedule of RFI Conditions will be assisting with the administration of this RFI.
Auckland Transport is open to receiving information from independent suppliers that can provide the full range of scope, a combined effort involving multiple companies for the differing aspects or information from smaller entities that can only provide part of the scope such as the sensors and signs. Auckland Transport can organise installation and traffic management separately if necessary.
Should any company want to showcase what they can provide or discuss the need in greater detail, meetings can be arranged via the RFI Contact Person:
