The Chief Post Office (CPO) building is classified under the Heritage New Zealand system as a Category 1 building, being one of the highest ratings for buildings of national importance. The building is located above the Britomart Train Station which is currently undergoing major alterations as part of the City Rail Link development project.
Auckland Transport requires tenders from established construction companies to carry out an exterior refurbishment. Interest tenderers should demonstrate evidence of specific experience working on Class 1 Category Heritage buildings, or the successful delivery of similar projects, i.e. building façade and roof refurbishment of a historic building of similar size, scale and complexities which include construction and stakeholder management, while ensuring appropriate health, safety, security, and environmental considerations are managed.
Refurbishment works will include works but not be limited to:
• Steel framed Crittal windows
• Specialist pigmented plaster finish repairs
• Oamaru Stone façade repairs
• Cleaning of Oamaru stone using algaecides and algaestats
• Neuchatel roof membrane to CPO roof
• Strucural Works to parapets
