Auckland Council owns or manages approximately 200 closed landfill sites which are known or suspected to have been used for waste filling, but no longer accept waste. Many of these closed landfill sites have been repurposed for community or commercial use. Closed landfills present hazards to workers, the general public, and the environment including but not limited to sharps, soil contaminants, landfill gas, contaminated leachate and instability.
The Closed Landfills Team (CLT) within Resilient Land & Coasts (RLC) is responsible for aftercare of council’s closed landfills and undertakes a wide range of risk management activities such as:
• site investigations and risk assessments
• monitoring and consent compliance
• operation of closed landfill assets, and
• remedial works.
CLT is seeking to establish a supplier panel to provide engineering and environmental professional services (the Panel) including but not limited to:
• Engineering and environmental investigations
• Asset inventory and condition assessments
• Planning, including the application of resource and building consents, and other permits/approvals
• GIS and remote sensing investigations and data management
• Design, physical works scoping and construction monitoring
• Other technical or project management support, including emergency response and expert witness.
