Auckland is a region of over 1.7m people, governed by a single local government authority, Auckland Council. As part of its role, Auckland Council needs to engage, consult and communicate with its diverse communities and citizens. Currently we use a limited number of tools with which to do this. Recently, we reviewed our capabilities and needs in this space, and found:
• Council needs to collaborate with community groups to co-design initiatives that ensure we deliver the best possible outcomes for Auckland
• Information and data from community engagement is not always easily accessible within council and by communities and stakeholders
• We need to provide opportunities for communities to engage with council initiatives
• We need to utilise expertise out in the community to increase our own knowledge and expertise within council
Auckland Council is looking to put in place a panel of engagement technology providers for an initial period of 18 months, allowing us to better engage and communicate with our citizens and communities. We will use this period to evaluate which tools we will take on for a longer period at the end of the 18 months.
