Development of a Self-Funded Mountain Bike Park
Opportunity Overview:
Expressions of Interest are invited from individuals, community groups, investors, recreation organisations, and commercial operators interested in developing and operating a self-funded mountain bike park on a unique 130-hectare retired quarry site.
The property is located just south of Waitakaruru on the western edge of the Hauraki Plains, Waikato, New Zealand access is from local road just off State Highway 2. The site offers significant potential for the creation of a destination mountain biking and outdoor recreation facility that could attract local, regional, and national visitors.
The site has been earmarked to undergo significant remediation as metal extraction and forestry activities have been exhausted. Remediation of the site is expected to be undertaken over the next 24 months during which, the site will be rezoned as recreational reserve land under reserves Act. This will allow an extensive array of activities.
Site Description:
The 130-hectare retired quarry presents a diverse landscape with varied topography, elevation changes, and existing quarry features that may be suitable for a range of mountain biking experiences, including:
• Cross-country trails
• Downhill and gravity trails
• Enduro riding
• Skills and training areas
• Family-friendly recreational tracks
• Associated outdoor recreation opportunities.
The site’s size and terrain provide flexibility for staged development and the potential to establish a unique recreational destination within the Waikato region.
