Scope of Works
The project involves the preparation of concept and construction designs for the development of new land at Kopuatama Cemetery, to provide additional burial capacity and support the cemetery’s future needs.
The concept design will investigate the layout and functionality of the new area, including vehicle access between the existing and proposed cemetery areas, and the overall arrangement of burial areas and supporting infrastructure.
The objective of the project is to ensure the new land is developed in a practical, accessible, and sustainable manner that meets Council’s operational requirements and provides a respectful environment for bereaved families and visitors.
The design process will consider:
• Site constraints
• Existing cemetery operations
• Access
• Drainage
• Landscaping
• Boundary treatments
• Opportunities to enhance the visual amenity of the cemetery.
Engagement with Council representatives, iwi, and other relevant stakeholders will inform the design process to ensure cultural values, community expectations, and operational requirements are appropriately considered.
The project will progress from concept design to detailed construction design, providing the plans, specifications, and supporting information required to guide construction.
This staged approach will enable Council to:
• Assess options
• Confirm the preferred layout
• Establish project costs
• Ensure the proposed development is fit for purpose, cost-effective, and capable of meeting the cemetery’s long-term needs.
