The labour-hire industry is a substantial employer of workers in New Zealand. Workers employed by labour-hire companies are hosted across many industries and each of WorkSafe’s priority sectors (Agriculture, Construction, Forestry and Manufacturing).

WorkSafe New Zealand is looking to develop a profile of the labour-hire industry in New Zealand and better understand the health and safety risks associated with health and safety and how effectively they are being managed by both labour-hire firms and host employers.

To this end, WorkSafe is seeking a supplier to provide a detailed reseach report into the labour-hire industry in New Zealand. It is anticipated that research will involve a mix of primary and secondary data sources. The supplier should provide summaries of the size and make-up of the industry, a review of risks for labour hire workers and a summary of how effectively health and safety is being managed in the labour-hire industry in New Zealand.

This is an opportunity to address a substantial gap in the health and safety literature in New Zealand and to support WorkSafe New Zealand to continue to strengthen our health and safety system.
