Registrations of Interest are invited from suitably qualified Contractors to undertake redevelopment work to the existing University of Otago, Marine Science facility at Portobello. This includes for the provision of a new laboratory facility and enclosed under-croft and upgrade of the seawater treatment and reticulation on the site.
Note:
The existing 1960’s aquarium building is to be demolished and the remaining slab prepared for reuse, ahead of these works. In addition, stabilisation of the existing cliff face adjacent to the NZMSc building, by installation of a post and panel solution is to be completed ahead of the tendered works.
Project Information
In broad terms, the project will include for the following:
• Construction of a new 42-student PC One laboratory, including write-up space, storage provision and connection to the adjacent laboratory building
• Formation of an enclosed under-croft space, which will provide for scuba gear storage, shower facilities and three controlled temperature (CT) rooms
• Enclosure of live specimen tanks adjacent to the NZMSc Building
• Upgrade of the existing seawater system on the site including treatment, reticulation and storage
• Expansion of existing staff facilities, to accommodate the increase site utilisation
• Upgrade of existing concrete specimen tanks
• Upgrade of existing wharf access to compliance with NZS 4121
• Facilitating the installation of upgraded IT Network and AV provision throughout the site
