New Zealand is currently negotiating a free trade agreement (FTA) with the European Union (EU), one of the world's largest trading entities. As part of the IP Chapter of the EU-NZ FTA, the EU is seeking extensions for agricultural compounds[1] and veterinary medicines (ACVM):
1) of up to 5 years of the patent term; and
2) of the term for protection of data submitted to regulators for applications under the ACVM Act.

The purpose of this procurement is therefore to commission research on the economic impact that patent term extension and extended data protection for ACVM under the EU-NZ FTA might have on New Zealand.
