The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is seeking general information from suppliers of laboratory equipment.
MPI is looking into new ways of sourcing laboratory equipment for the Animal Health Laboratory (AHL) in Wallaceville (including for the new National Biocontainment Laboratory scheduled for completion in 2019) and the Plant Health and Environment Laboratories (PHEL) in Auckland and Christchurch. Such laboratory equipment includes refrigeration, benchtop and freestanding instruments, and cabinets. MPI’s existing laboratory equipment are at various stages of their useful lifecycles and require ongoing replacement as and when required.
In advance of possible tender activity which may involve implementing a panel of providers to supply laboratory equipment, MPI is interested in learning more about the supply market for laboratory equipment. In particular MPI is interested in how it can best approach standardisation across our laboratories and establish a purchasing programme which enables MPI to gain the benefits of new, innovative technologies.
We are not at this stage requesting quotes or proposals, or fully developed solutions for our requirements. Rather we are seeking to improve our state of knowledge of matters such as:
• What is available in the market
• What suppliers are active in the various categories of laboratory equipment
• Understand market capacity and capability with regards to the supply of equipment, servicing, maintenance, replacement of equipment
• Current and future trends within the supply market
