The Ministry of Health is proposing to release a tender on GETS in the second business week of January 2017. This tender process provides an opportunity to develop and test innovative value-for-money research proposals for preventing and minimising gambling harm and improving outcomes. The proposals may include:
- Research projects that address gambling-related harm and are likely to have practical applications for gambling harm intervention or public health services, gambling venues, or policy development
- A national trial of an internet or smart-technology system for preventing and minimising gambling harm
- Research into a national programme for budgeting and financial literacy for Maori and Pacific problem gamblers
The Ministry is seeking to engage suppliers who can develop, implement, and complete one or more high quality research project/s that addresses one or more of the three types described above. The projects must be led by independent, experienced, and well-qualified researchers, preferably with experience in gambling harm research or the mental health/addictions sector. The Ministry encourages projects that involve partnerships between researchers and gambling harm services, with a strong commitment to addressing inequities in gambling harm for priority populations such as Asian, Maori, and Pacific peoples.
