The New Zealand Government is collaborating with Government of Fiji to support the Ministry of Fisheries to improve the management of inshore fisheries and compliance with fisheries rules.
The Ministry of Fisheries wishes to move its offshore and coastal fisheries information management systems onto a computer based platform.
The Fiji fisheries sector comprises offshore commercial, coastal commercial and subsistence subsectors. The Fiji Ministry of Fisheries vision is for sustainable, well-managed fisheries that provide long-term economic, social, ecological and food security benefits to current and future generations of Fijians. In contributing to the achievement of this vision, the Ministry uses participative approaches to provide transparent and accountable sustainable fisheries management and development services, as a trusted provider, to achieve a healthy ecosystem, economic growth, food security and sustainable livelihoods.
