Overview

Main Building Contractor for ILE Upgrade/Roofing plus Fire + Security Works to Blocks 3 + 6 at Kaukapakapa School, Kaukapakapa, North West Auckland

The Contract Works required are:
Block 3 & 6
• Replace Roofing, gutters and flashings. Work also includes installing insulation in roof cavity if this is not already present. Replace Roofing, gutters and flashings. Fire + Security: That smoke detection is installed to Blocks 3 and 6. Install security detection to currently unprotected areas in the Teaching Blocks.

ILE Works
Block 3:
The proposal is to open the existing wall partition between Classrooms 13 +14 to create the large area shown as ILE 1 on the plan. This will not only create a collaborative learning area but as the school has no hall, it will also provide a valuable multi-purpose space. The associated toilets will be upgraded with warm water for hand washing along with new fittings and linings.
Block 6:
The triangular in-fill between Classrooms 15 + 16 shown as Rooms 3+4 on the plan which currently comprises a lobby, and resource spaces will be converted to a withdrawal remedial area accessed by the 2 surrounding classrooms.
Appropriate exit doors will be installed at the rear of the teaching areas and these will exit out on to decks created to provide breakout areas. The location of these areas will look out to the school grounds/fields and away from the traffic noise generated from the main road at the front of the building.
It is proposed that work will include upgrading of the classrooms to meet DQLS standards for acoustics, ventilation, insulation, flooring, pinboard, lighting, data, electrics etc. along with upgrade of associated toilet areas with provision of warm water for hand washing. Work would include replacement of urinals, pans cisterns, plumbing, lighting, toilet partitions and wall linings etc.
The toilets are in good condition and will only be upgraded where they are affected by the building works.

A preliminary Asbestos survey identifying the likelihood of asbestos present in the contract areas will be provided at the time of tendering and contractors should demonstrate that they have relevant experience in the safe removal, handling and disposal of asbestos.
