Design of an integrated catchment, community-driven and participatory process for the Wellington Harbour/Hutt Valley Whaitua.

In response to the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management 2014 (NPS-FM), Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC) has established a community based collaborative planning process, the Whaitua process http://www.gw.govt.nz/whaitua-committees/.
Our intention is to explore the breadth of expertise that can supplement our thinking and experiences from the two Whaitua processes already underway, and assist us in designing the overall process for the Wellington Harbour /Hutt Valley Whaitua.
The Ruamahanga Whaitua process was the first of five Whaitua. Our experience and work from the Ruamahanga Whaitua evolved as we shaped the process for Te Awarua-o-Porirua Whaitua. From these processes, we learnt that each Whaitua is distinct and each process requires a design that suits the whaitua individual needs.
