What we need
The New Zealand Government is looking to preserve New Zealand’s magnetic media audiovisual heritage through digitisation.
Over 556,000 archived audiovisual items make up multiple significant Crown collections which are stored and preserved for future generations. Many of these items are stored on historical and now obsolete or at- risk formats which have the potential to be lost forever.
While we have been digitising the Crown’s most significant items since 2005 and have extended the shelf life of the remaining items through improved controlled storage, our capacity to complete full digitisation in-house is limited when faced with the remaining volume (over 514,000 items still requiring digitisation) and the likelihood of permanent deterioration of a large percentage of the collection in as little as ten years.
What we don’t want
We are not looking to purchase playback equipment for the various formats our collections are currently stored on.

This is stage one of a two stage procurement process.
The result of stage one is the shortlisting of three Respondents through to the closed RFP stage. No value was included in stage one of this process.
