Advance notice of a Request for Tender for Christchurch Main Build Contractor for Archives NZ
The Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) is looking to support Archives New Zealand (Archives NZ) through the 2017/2018 build of a new archival storage facility in Wigram, Christchurch. Archives NZ is the official guardian of New Zealand’s public archives and gathers, stores and protects an extremely wide range of material. A new build has been deemed necessary as in addition to reaching capacity the existing Christchurch facility received significant damage during the 2011 earthquakes and is now unable to support Archives NZ in the delivery of its ongoing duties.
To identify a preferred main contractor DIA is expecting to release an NZS3910:2013 Request for Tender (RFT) for Main Build Contractor mid to late October 2016, subject to required internal approvals. Respondents to the RFT will be required to demonstrate that they have the skills, capacity and capability to manage and successfully deliver on a building of importance to the people of New Zealand.
RFT documentation will contain all the information necessary for prospective respondents but to assist in informing suppliers about expected requirements we have included and attached some details around the proposed facility. Details provided are in draft form and for information purposes only. Finalised documentation and specifications will be provided at the time of the release of the RFT (if any):
• Main contractor package to build a new archive facility and offices
• Approximately 3,000m2 plus external areas
• Green field site at Wigram Air Force base, Christchurch
• External areas includes car and bike parking, landscaping, fencing, outdoor plant area and secure courtyard
• Archive storage areas are formed using precast panels with structural steel frame incorporating Rooflogic
• Built to Importance Level (IL) 2
• Mobile racking to be installed on rails within the archives stacks
• Offices will be formed using traditional lightweight materials
• Expected construction and fit out period is January 2017 to January 2018.
Please note that as the archival storage solution is an integral part of the overall build DIA is running a separate RFP process to identify a preferred participant to be the Nominated Supplier for archival storage.
